President Hu Jintao and the Heads of State of other SCO Member States Observe the Warfare Exercise of Peace Mission 2007 Military Drill

"Peace Mission 2007", the SCO member states joint anti-terror drill, kicked off in Chelyabinsk, Russia on August 17. Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the heads of state of other SCO member states, observed the warfare exercise of the drill. Around 12:30 p.m. local time, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazak President Nursultan Nazarbaev, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov and Uzbek President Islam Karimov arrived at the Chebarkul training range one after another. At 12:50 p.m., the event started. The heads of state firstly listened to the introduction on the joint anti-terror military drill. This was the first joint anti-terror military drill involving all the six member states of the SCO, namely China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. There were over 4,000 officers and soldiers attending the military exercise. The military drill was carried out in two stages: strategic consultation and the joint anti-terrorism campaign preparation and the execution of the military exercise, which were staged in Urumqi of China and Chelyabinsk of Russia respectively from August 9 to 17. The warfare exercise that day included five maneuvers: joint reconnaissance, seizing key points, mobile attack against hostile reinforcement, cleaning up enemies by zones, and chasing downing and eliminating enemies in a multi-dimensional manner. After the introduction, the warfare exercise started. At 13:00 p.m., 3 red signal lights soared into the sky. The anti-terror warfare exercise involving multiple arms unveiled its curtain. The airborne forces, including unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, military helicopters, and fighter-bombers took the lead and carried out reconnaissance and attack missions. Assault guns, howitzers, and rocket launchers fired heavily on the beachhead of the enemies. Hundreds of armoured infantry fighting vehicles, special carriers, and armoured personnel carriers moved swiftly on the battlefield. The joint forces rushed to the enemies' beachhead. The military drill mobilized multiple arms and varied weapons and the joint forces were well coordinated. In the joint campaign headquarters, the commanders of Kazakhstan, China, Krygyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan cooperated well with each other. The instructions and the supporting information were sent from the headquarters to the command posts. The instructions soon became the actions of the officers and soldiers on the batter filed against terrorism. At 15:00 p.m., 3 green signal flares soared into the sky. The joint military exercise dropped its curtain. The drill was greeted with warm applause from the podium. The heads of state of member states congratulated on the success of the SCO member states joint anti-terror military drill. The success of the military drill indicates the improvement of the ability of the SCO member states to jointly combat terrorism and demonstrated firm determination of the SCO member states to fight against the "three forces" and safeguard regional and global peace. Wu Yi, Vice Premier of the State Council, Cao Gangchuan, Vice-Chairman of the Military Commission of CPC Central Committee, State Councilor and Minister of Defense of China, and other high-level officials of China attended the event. The ministers of defense of the SCO member states also observed the military drill.
