On September 3, 2007, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks at the Great Hall of the People with visiting Hungarian Prime Minister Gyurcsany Ferenc, exchanging views on further strengthening bilateral friendly cooperation in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

During the talks, Wen said Hungary is one of the first countries to acknowledge and establish diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China and the relations between the two countries enjoy a firm base. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 58 years ago, the two sides have treated each other as equals in the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, said Wen, adding that the relations between the two countries have witnessed steady development. The premier said the Hungarian government attaches great importance to developing ties with China, calls for strengthening bilateral cooperation and upholds adherence to the one-China policy and support of China's peaceful reunification, which China appreciates.

"The continuous development of China-Hungary friendly cooperative partnership, as the important agreement between both sides, serves the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries ", Wen stressed. He suggested the two sides should continue to maintain the high-level exchanges and intensify the consultations and dialogues at various levels to increase political mutual trust. Wen urged both sides to take more proactive measures to encourage two-way investment between businesses and expand cooperation on infrastructure and hi-tech, in a bid to enhance the level of economic and trade cooperation. He also called for expanding humanistic exchanges, especially between the youth, to deepen the traditional friendship. China welcomes and supports Hungary to hold the "Hungary Festival" in China and is ready to co-sponsor, with Hungary, a meeting of friendly provinces and cities between the two countries next year, he added.

Gyurcsany said that Hungary values China's important role in the international community and hopes to draw on China's experience to cement bilateral cooperation and push forward Hungary-China ties. Hungary will firmly support and stick to its one-China principle and oppose to the Taiwan Independence in any form, Gyurcsany promised.

The Hungarian prime minister said Hungary will keep closer multi-level exchanges and dialogue with China in all fields and hopes to become China's important cooperative partner in the region where Hungary is. He called for the two sides to work closer in fields like trade, finance, information, logistics and biological technology. He expressed his welcome for the Chinese business people to increase investment in Hungary and take the country as a bridge to expand the European market. Gyurcsany also pledged to actively promote humanistic exchanges between the two countries and wished the Beijing Olympic Games a great success.

Both sides also exchanged views on China-EU ties and other issues. Gyurcsany expressed his country's willingness to play a positive role in pushing for EU-China ties.
