Hu Jintao Meets with Russian Federation Council Chairman

On the afternoon of September 27, 2007, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Russian Federation Council Chairman Sergei Mironov at the Great Hall of the People.

Hu said China and Russia had maintained sound relations and the strategic coordination and pragmatic cooperation had made important headway. "The Year of China" in Russia, which was well received by the two countries and the international community as well, had enriched Sino-Russian relations. Hu said China would enhance mutual understanding and traditional friendship with Russia in accordance with the principles of good-neighborly and cooperative treaty between the two countries. China will work with Russia to enhance strategic mutual trust and substantial cooperation to advance the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation to a new stage, said Hu.

Stressing the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation in developing Sino-Russian relations, Hu said the Chinese government supported legislative exchanges with Russia. He expressed the hope that both sides' special committees and parliamentary groups of friendship will offer suggestions for development of bilateral ties and play a linking role in pushing forward regional cooperation between the two countries. He hoped the two sides would strengthen legislative exchanges and the cooperation in the multilateral organizations including Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to contribute to world peace and common development.

Mironov said with the joint efforts of both sides, bilateral relations have witnessed all-round development with fruitful results achieved in pragmatic cooperation. Furthering the relationship with China and Russia-China strategic partnership of cooperation had been common aspiration of Russia's all parties and political groups, and the Russian Federation Council would like to work with the National People's Congress of China to push forward cooperation of the two countries in all areas.
