On January 30, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the Chinese Foreign Ministry with Albanian Deputy Foreign Minister Anton Gurakuqi, who is here for regular consultation between the two Foreign Ministries. Yang and Gurakuqi hailed sound development of China-Albania relations and agreed to make joint efforts to continue deepening friendly cooperation between the two countries in bilateral and multilateral areas, in an effort to boost sustained, healthy and stable development of bilateral relations in the new period. Gurakuqi reiterated Albania's adherence to the one-China policy and expressed clear opposition to any separatist activities aimed at "Taiwan independence" and the Taiwan authorities' attempts at "referendum on U.N. membership in the name of Taiwan."

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
