2009/06/15

On June 15, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev in Yekaterinburg.

The China-Kyrgyzstan relationship has maintained a momentum of stable development in recent years, Hu said. China and Kyrgyzstan have frequently exchanged high-level visits and have made great achievements in such cooperation fields as trade, investment, transportation, communications and agriculture, Hu said. The two sides also work together, he said, to combat the three evil forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism in order to facilitate regional security. China and Kyrgyzstan support each other within the frameworks of the United Nations and the SCO to safeguard the common interests of both countries, Hu said.

Kyrgyzstan is a close neighbor of China, said Hu, stressing that China values its relationship with Kyrgyzstan and considers the country an intimate friend and sincere partner. China supports Kyrgyzstan in choosing a development path that meets its domestic situation. Hu said that China is willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to promote good-neighborly, friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries. China-Kyrgyzstan pragmatic cooperation has expanded in various fields in recent years with a strong momentum in bilateral trade. The two countries should use large-scale projects to boost their trade and economic cooperation, Hu said.

The Chinese president also said the ongoing global financial crisis is continuing to spread and negatively impact the economic and social development of all countries and their people's livelihood. The international community has reached a consensus that all countries should join hands to combat the difficulties, he said. As a neighbor and partner, China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, jointly deal with the economic downturn and advance the sound and steady development of the two economies.

Hu said the upcoming SCO summit in Yekaterinburg is very important and its success is of special significance amid the ongoing global financial crisis. China hopes that it will send a strong signal to the world that the participants will work together to overcome the crisis.

Bakiev, for his part, said that Kyrgyzstan-China relations are developing rapidly with smooth cooperation in various areas. The consensus reached by the two countries in economy and trade is being actively implemented and both sides have maintained sound cooperation in international and regional affairs. He said that Kyrgyzstan appreciates China's disinterested aid for its economic and social development. Kyrgyzstan is willing to enhance cooperation with China in battling the financial crisis and in such fields as transport, border trade and mineral exploration, he said. Bakiev reiterated that Kyrgyzstan firmly supports China's position on Taiwan and Tibet issues.

Ling Jihua, Wang Huning and Dai Bingguo attended the meeting.
