On June 15, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov in Yekaterinburg. During the meeting, Hu emphasized that since the establishment of China-Uzbekistan friendly cooperative partnership in 2005, bilateral relations have developed steadily with close high-level contacts, increasing mutual political trust and expanded cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, energy, security, cultural and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides have offered firm mutual support on major issues of common concern and conducted sound cooperation within the frameworks of the UN and SCO, contributing to peace and development of the region and the world at large. China attaches great importance to developing ties with Uzbekistan and deems it a reliable friend and sincere cooperative partner. China is ready to work with Uzbekistan to earnestly implement the agreements and consensus reached by the two sides and push forward bilateral friendly cooperative partnership. Hu proposed important suggestions on deepening bilateral pragmatic cooperation, saying that both sides should give full play to the role of the economic and trade cooperation committee between the two governments. He also urged both sides to comprehensively advance cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, transport, energy, telecommunications, light industry and agriculture and maintain the momentum of trade growth to promote the economic and social development of the two countries. Hu pointed out that the spreading and deepening global financial crisis is bringing huge difficulties and challenges to China's economic development. In order to respond to the impact of the international financial crisis and maintain stable and relatively rapid economic growth, China has promptly adjusted its macro-economic policy and unveiled a stimulus package to further expand domestic demand. These measures are being implemented and have taken initial effects. China has confidence in overcoming difficulties and pushing for stable and relatively rapid growth of its economy, so as to contribute to the recovery and sound development of the world economy. As a friendly cooperative partner, China is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Uzbekistan in the financial sector, jointly fend off the international financial risks and push for healthy, stable development of the world economy. Karimov said Uzbekistan-China ties are friendly relations of mutual trust and cooperation, which Uzbekistan highly praises. China has long been offering enormous selfless assistance to Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan thanks China for offering sincere help and support when Uzbekistan was having a difficult time. It is of great significance to consolidate bilateral ties, he said, adding his country will attach great importance to and seriously implement the Treaty between Uzbekistan and China on Friendly and Cooperative Partnership. Amid the ongoing financial crisis, Uzbekistan is ready to enhance cooperation with China on economy, trade and energy and jointly cope with the global financial crisis, said Karimov. Uzbekistan is also ready to strengthen cooperation with China within the framework of the SCO and keep close coordination in international affairs. Uzbekistan firmly supports China's position on issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet, he added. Ling Jihua, Wang Huning and Dai Bingguo attended the meeting.
