Ukrainian President Yanukovych Meets with Special Envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao

On February 25, 2010, Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych met with Han Changfu, a special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao. Han, Chinese minister of agriculture, arrived here to attend Yanukovych's swearing-in ceremony at invitation.

At the meeting, Han conveyed President Hu Jintao's cordial greetings and heartfelt congratulations on Yanukovych's inauguration. The Chinese envoy said that China and Ukraine, as good friends and good partners, have profound traditional friendship between their peoples and that the Chinese government and leaders attach great importance to developing ties with Ukraine. China is ready to work with Ukraine on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect to further build up political trust, expand and deepen bilateral cooperation in all areas and push forward China-Ukraine comprehensive friendly cooperative relations.

Yanukovych, for his part, thanked President Hu Jintao for sending special envoy to attend his swearing-in ceremony and asked Han to convey his cordial greetings to President Hu. Yanukovych said Ukraine highly praises China’s persistent position of supporting Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stressed that Ukraine deems China its important cooperative partner and that it's a priority of Ukraine's foreign policy to develop relations with China. Ukraine is ready to actively push forward cooperation with China in the areas of economy, trade and investment for the benefit of the two countries and their peoples.
