Premier Wen Jiabao Holds Talks with His Ukrainian Counterpart Azarov

On April 18, 2011, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with visiting Ukrainian Prime Minister Mikola Azarov at the Great Hall of the People. Wen said Ukraine is a trustworthy friend and partner of China. China cherishes its friendship and cooperation with Ukraine and is willing to work with the Ukrainian side to strengthen top-level exchanges and consultations at all levels to establish and develop a strategic partnership. China-Ukraine mutually beneficial cooperation enjoys a good foundation and great potential in the areas of economy, trade, high technology, agriculture and infrastructure, Wen said, adding that the two sides should make good use of the vice-premier level China-Ukraine Cooperation Committee in promoting coordination and carrying out major cooperation projects already agreed upon. He said China and Ukraine should make long-term cooperation planning and related policies based on the two countries' development strategies and advantages so as to promote the scale and quality of bilateral cooperation to a higher level. Azarov said the frequent meetings between the countries' leaders since 2010 have laid a solid foundation for the further development of bilateral ties. He said Ukraine welcomes China to participate in Ukraine's infrastructure construction and to expand investment in the country. Ukraine is ready to make full use of China-Ukraine Cooperation Committee in creating more favorable conditions for future cooperation and promote modernization of the two countries. Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Minister of Commerce Chen Deming and other officials attended the talks. Following the talks, the two leaders attended the signing ceremony of relevant cooperation documents.
