Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with His Kazakh Counterpart

2011/09/08

On September 8, 2011, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with his visiting Kazakh counterpart Yerzhan Kazykhanov in Beijing.

Yang hailed the sustained, stable and sound growth of China-Kazakhstan relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties nearly 20 years ago. The political and strategic trust, practical cooperation, humanities exchanges and international coordination between the two sides have all reached an unprecedented high level. The development of China-Kazakhstan bilateral ties has set a good example for neighborly, friendly, cooperative and win-win relations between nations, Yang said. In June, President Hu Jintao and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev jointly announced the development of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership and China-Kazakhstan relations entered a new stage of all-round, in-depth development. China is ready to work with Kazakhstan to earnestly implement the consensus reached between the two countries' leaders, maintain the sound momentum of high-level exchanges and continue to strengthen mutual support and coordination. Yang urged both sides to deepen pragmatic cooperation in all areas and push forward bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership in bilateral areas and the SCO framework.

Kazykhanov said that Kazakhstan attaches great importance to developing its relationship with China and regards Kazakhstan-China relations as one of its top diplomatic priorities. Bilateral relations are at a historical high, featuring high-level political trust and substantial progress of cooperation in all areas, Kazykhanov said. He added that both countries understand and support each other on regional and international issues. Kazakhstan unswervingly supports the Chinese government's principled positions on issues related to Taiwan, Tibet and the fight against terrorism, extremism and separatism, he said. Kazakhstan is ready to conduct all-round cooperation with China and further broaden cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy, humanities, technology and security, he said. Kazakhstan is also ready to cooperate with China to well run the Shanghai Cooperation Organization "good-neighborly friendship year" and push the Kazakh-Chinese relations to a higher level.

Following the talks, the two foreign ministers jointly met the press.
