China Donates 400,000 US. Dollars for African Union's Mediation in Darfur

On December 30th, 2004, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing wrote to H.E Alpha Oumar Konare, the Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union and informed him that Chinese Government had decided to donate four hundred thousand (400,000) US dollars in support of the AU’s mediation efforts to resolve the Darfur crisis, the Republic of the Sudan. Li writes that Chinese Government appreciates the AU’s leading role in this regard. The Chinese side hopes that the Darfur issue can be properly settled within the framework of the AU as soon as possible.
