Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with Burundian Foreign Minister Batumubwira

On December 22, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks with Burundian Minister of External Relations and Cooperation Antoinette Batumubwira in Beijing.

Li congratulated on Burundi's successful election and its conclusion of the political transition and praised that this is a significant progress made by the Burundian government and people on the road for peace, stability and national reconciliation, indicating that the Chinese government will continue supporting Burundi's peace process.

Li said that both countries have treated each other as equals in a sincere and friendly manner for a long period of time and their cooperation in various areas remains effective. China appreciates the Burundian government for resolutely adhering to the one-China position and would like to keep closer political exchanges with Burundi, build up mutual understanding and trust, expand and deepen cooperation in the economic and trade area, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs and jointly push bilateral friendly cooperative relations to a higher level.

On behalf the Burundian government, Batumubwira thanked for the Chinese government's resolute support and sincere assistance for a long period of time. She said that Burundi has now achieved peace and security and is committing itself to the cause of national reconstruction. Her country would like to further strengthen cooperation with China in all areas and realize common development. She reaffirmed that the Burundian government will continue to pursue the one-China policy and support China's position on human rights and other major international issues.

At the invitation of Li Zhaoxing, Batumubwira started her official visit to China on December 18.
