Hu Jintao Meets with His Gabonese Counterpart Bongo

On the evening of September 15, 2005, after the attending of the activities related to the Summit of the 60th Anniversary of the UN, Chinese President Hu Jintao met in the hotel where he stayed with his Gabonese counterpart El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba and both sides exchanged extensive views on further strengthening the bilateral friendly cooperative relations. Hu noted that though both countries are far away from each other, the two peoples share fraternal friendly feelings and the traditional friendly cooperation has entered a new stage of maturity and accelerated development. The two heads of state exchanged visits last year and both sides have continuously built up mutual political trust, expanded the economic and trade relations, especially the mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of resources, energy and infrastructure construction and conducted sound collaboration in international affairs. Hu highly appreciated the Gabonese government for consistent adherence to the one-China policy, adding that Gabon is China's reliable and sincere friend and important cooperative partner as well. He reaffirmed that China would like to work with Gabon to further strengthen bilateral friendly exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, realize common development and push the bilateral relations to a higher level. Bongo expressed his full agreement with Hu's views on bilateral relations. He said that the bilateral relations have been developing smoothly. The friendly cooperation in various areas has continuously scored achievements and in particular, both sides have witnessed rapid growth of bilateral trade volume and expanded cooperation in the area of energy resources. Bongo emphasized that Gabon hopes to expand areas of friendly cooperation between both sides and welcomes more Chinese businesses to develop in his country. The leaders of both sides also discussed the specific projects of bilateral cooperation.
