Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with Foreign Minister of Gabon

On November 11, 2003, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks with Mr. Jean Ping, Minister of State, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Francophone of Gabon. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern. Li said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Gabon, with the joint care of leaders of the two countries, bilateral relations have grown in a sound and steady way. The two sides have achieved positive progress in cooperation in various fields, supported and coordinated with each other in international affairs. The Chinese side appreciated the Gabonese government's adherence to the One China policy. He said that the Chinese government would like to work with Gabon to strengthen political exchanges, expand economic and trade cooperation and bring bilateral relations to a high. Jean Ping said that Gabon and China have maintained close brotherly relations. Gabon thanked the Chinese government for long-time selfless assistance to Gabon. He reaffirmed that the Gabonese government's adherence to the One China policy and continued support of China on human rights and other international issues. After the talks, the two foreign ministers signed an agreement on the establishment of a political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries.
