In 2010, the friendly relations and cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Gabonese Republic developed further and deeper with fruitful results in various fields of coorperation.

The two countries had close political exchanges. In March, President Hu Jintao sent a congratulatory letter to President Ali Bongo Ondimba on his election as the President of the ruling Democratic Gabonese Party. In August, Education Minister Yuan Guiren, special representative of President Hu Jintao, attended the ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the Independence of Gabon. From 29 April to 3 May, Gabonese President Bongo visited China for the opening ceremony of World Expo 2010 Shanghai, during which President Hu Jintao met with him. They exchanged views on bilateral relations and reached broad consensus. President Hu Jintao stated that China attaches great importance to China-Gabon relationship and stands ready to work together with the Gabonese side, on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and common development, to enrich the content of the bilateral cooperation and lift it to a higher level. President Bongo stated that the Gabonese side is very satisfied with the development of the bilateral relations. Gabon will remain China's good friend and good partner forever. In April and August, President Bongo sent letters of condolences to President Hu Jintao on the Yushu earthquake in Qinghai Province and the Yichun air crash in Heilongjiang Province respectively. In July, Prime Minister Paul Biyoghe Mba visited China for the National Pavilion Day of Gabon at World Expo 2010 Shanghai.

The two countries made positive headway in economic cooperation and trade. Bilateral trade volume continued to increase. In January, construction began on the China-Gabon Friendship Stadium with Chinese assistance. In April, Vice Commerce Minister Fu Ziying led a government economic and trade delegation to Gabon and launched the Gabon-related projects which are part of the eight new measures announced at the fourth ministerial meeting of FOCAC. Also in April, Minister of Economy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Magloire Ngambia and Minister of Water, Forests, Environment and Sustainable Development Martin Mabala paid separate visits to China. The project of the Boubala hydropower station built with Chinese preferential loans and export buyer's credit was carried out smoothly.
