In 2010, friendship and cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Ghana achieved in-depth development.
The two countries enjoyed more frequent high level exchanges and enhanced mutual trust. On 5 July, President Hu Jintao and President John Evans Atta Mills exchanged messages of congratulation on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Ghana diplomatic relations. In September, President Mills paid a state visit to China. During the visit, President Hu Jintao held talks with him and NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo met with him. The two governments signed cooperation agreements in the fields of economy, trade and medical services. In the same month, Vice President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama attended the second World Investment Forum sponsored by the UN Conference on Trade and Development. Vice President Xi Jinping met with him. In March, the Ghanaian Defense Minister Joseph Henry Smith visited China. In June, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress party of Ghana Kwabena Adjei visited China. In August, the Ghanaian Minister of Trade and Industry Hannah Tetteh attended the National Pavilion Day of Ghana at the Shanghai World Expo. In September, the Ghanaian Minister of Tourism Sabah Zita Okaikoi attended the International Tourism Cultural Festival in Guangdong, China.
Bilateral economic cooperation was fruitful. The Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Co. Ltd jointly invested by the China-Africa Development Fund and Shen Zhen Energy Group Co. Ltd went into operation. The ICT-Enabled Distance Learning Project for the University of Ghana was completed and put into use. The BUI Hydroelectric Power Project in Ghana made smooth progress. The China-built project of office complex for the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration was in the final stage of preparation and the construction was about to start. The two countries had effective energy cooperation. Breakthroughs were made in the joint purchase of the Jubilee oil field by China National Offshore Oil Corporation in collaboration with Ghana National Petroleum Company.
