President Hu Jintao Meets with His Senegalese Counterpart Wade

On June 7, 2007, Chinese President Hu Jintao met in Berlin with his Senegalese counterpart Abdoulaye Wade. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in all areas and China-Africa relations. Hu said since the resumption of diplomatic ties, bilateral cooperation has been developing rapidly with all-round cooperation in all areas. The two countries have strengthened coordination and cooperation in international affairs and the cooperation projects set by both sides are also under way, he said. Senegal is "an important partner" of China on the continent of Africa, Hu said, adding that China is willing to have closer consultations and more friendly cooperation with Senegal to jointly promote full implementation of decisions made at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit for the benefit of the two peoples and people of the African continent. The Chinese president expressed appreciation of Senegal's adherence to the one-China policy. For his part, Wade spoke highly of China's contribution to Africa's development, saying his country is willing to play an active and promotive role in China-Africa cooperation. The Senegalese president said he is confident of the two countries' cooperation. He hoped that the two sides would continue to enhance their cooperation and make it a model for the cooperation between Africa and China. Hu also lauded the Senegalese efforts in maintaining peace and promoting development in Africa. President Wade has made unremitting efforts for Africa' peace and development by actively mediating regional conflicts in Africa and striving to push for the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), said Hu, expressing appreciation of the Senegalese president's endeavor in this regard. State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan attended the meeting.
