On June 3, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun at request met with the special envoy of Senegal's President. The special envoy also delivered a letter from Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade to Chinese President Hu Jintao.

The Senegalese side praised the China-Senegal friendly cooperative relationship as "exemplary". Bilateral cooperation in all areas has continuously made new progress in recent years, which the Senegalese side is satisfied with. The special envoy thanked for China's important contributions to Senegal's economic and social development.

Zhai made positive comments on the sound momentum of China-Senegal friendly exchanges as well as the development of bilateral ties. He emphasized that the Chinese government is ready to work with the Senegalese government to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries during President Hu's visit to Senegal in February, in a bid to push forward bilateral ties.
