Yang Jiechi Meets with Part of African Foreign Ministers

On November 9, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met respectively with Senegalese Foreign Minister Madicke Niang, South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Namibian Foreign minister Marco Hausiku, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Ali Aboul Gheit, Sierra Leone Foreign Minister Zainab Hawa Bangura and Chadian Foreign Minister Moussa Faki Mahamat on the sidelines of the fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

These foreign ministers agreed that the eight new measures announced by Premier Wen at the opening ceremony of the fourth ministerial meeting are of great significance and they will have positive and far-reaching influence on China-Africa cooperation and bring tangible benefit to African people.

When meeting with Senegalese Foreign Minister Madicke Niang, Yang said China attaches importance to ties with Senegal and is ready to work along with it to earnestly advance bilateral cooperation in the fields of agriculture, fishery, public health and infrastructure construction and enhance communication and coordination in multilateral affairs.

Niang said Senegal-China pragmatic cooperation is full of vigor and serves the interest of Senegalese people. Senegal will resolutely adhere to the one-China policy and is ready to continue strengthening economic, trade and infrastructure cooperation with China.

During the meeting with South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Yang made positive comments on China-South Africa strategic partnership, saying that China is ready to work with South Africa to boost pragmatic cooperation in all areas and coordinate with each other in coping with the international financial crisis, climate change and other global challenges, so as to safeguard interest of developing countries and achieve common development.

Mashabane said that South Africa gives priority to developing ties with China and is ready to continue expanding economic and trade cooperation with China. South Africa would like to strengthen strategic cooperation with China in international affairs and welcomes China to participate in building the cross-regional infrastructure interconnection in Africa.

When meeting with Namibian Foreign minister Marco Hausiku, Yang said that President Hu Jintao and Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba have successfully exchanged visits in recent years, establishing the direction for boosting bilateral cooperation under the new situation. China is ready to work with Namibia to deepen cooperation and take bilateral ties to one new level after another.

Hausiku spoke highly of the development of Namibia-China relations and appreciated the enormous work China has done in international affairs to safeguard African countries' interests. He expressed willingness to further strengthen friendly cooperation with China and hoped that China will continue offering support to African nations' development.

When meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Ali Aboul Gheit, Yang praised the efforts the Egyptian side has made for the success of the current meeting, saying that China is ready to work with Egypt in joint efforts to implement the outcome of Premier Wen's Egypt visit and advance pragmatic cooperation in all areas. China is ready to work with the Arab side to make sound preparations for the fourth ministerial meeting of China-Arab Cooperation Forum to be held next year.

Gheit said Egypt is ready to work with China to carry out the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, continuously build up political trust, deepen trade cooperation, coordinate closely in international affairs and jointly push Egypt-China relations to a higher level.

When meeting with Sierra Leone Foreign Minister Zainab Hawa Bangura, Yang said China is ready to work with Sierra Leone to actively expand cooperation areas and further deepen friendly cooperative relations between the two countries.

Bangura said bilateral relations have been developing very well and his country cherishes the friendship with China and is ready to continue boosting cooperation on infrastructure construction and energy exploration.

During the meeting with Chadian Foreign Minister Moussa Faki Mahamat, Yang said China-Chad friendship serves the common interest of both sides. China is ready to work with Chad to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas and push forward bilateral ties.

Faki said that China's support and help to Chad's economic development is very significant to Chadian people. Chad would like to further cooperation with China on agriculture, infrastructure, energy and communications.
