In 2010, the friendly and cooperative relationship between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Sierra Leone moved forward steadily.

The two countries conducted close political exchanges. From 9 to 10 January, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi visited Sierra Leone. He met with President Ernest Bai Koroma and had talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Zainab Hawa Bangura. The leader of Sierra Leone spoke highly of Sierra Leone-China relations and hoped to strengthen the bilateral practical cooperation in various fields. The two sides signed cooperation documents such as the Agreement on the Economic and Technical Cooperation Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone. President Koroma sent letters of condolences to President Hu Jintao in January and April, respectively on the death of Chinese peacekeepers during the earthquake in Haiti and the destructive earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai Province.
