Chairman Wu Bangguo Meets with President of the Republic of Congo Sassau

Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Wu Bangguo met with President of the Republic of Congo Sassau in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing

On September 27, 2005, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Wu Bangguo met with President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassau-Nguesso in the Great Hall of the People.

Wu said that Congo is one of the first African countries that established diplomatic ties with China and over the past more than 40 years, the bilateral relations have withstood the tests of the changeable international situation and various challenges, and have been developing steadily. The two peoples have always understood and supported each other, kept close cooperation and become sincere friends of mutual reliance. China appreciates and thanks the Congolese government for always resolutely supporting China on the questions related to Taiwan and human rights and would like to work with Congo to strengthen governmental and non-governmental exchanges at various levels, promote cooperation in the areas of politics, economy, trade and humanities and push for further development of bilateral relations.

Wu indicated that the NPC of China and the Congolese parliament have a sound basis for exchanges. The NPC of China would like to further enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation with the Congolese parliament at all levels and in various areas and hopes that both sides can learn from each other's experience in governing a state, strengthening democracy and building a legal system, build up mutual understanding and friendship and promote mutually beneficial and pragmatic cooperation in a bid to make new contributions to all-round development of bilateral relations.

Wu also briefed on China's economic and social developments.

Sassau indicated that since the establishment of their diplomatic ties, both sides have conducted fruitful friendly cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and social areas and the friendship between both peoples has deepened. The Congolese people admire the enormous achievements in China's reform and opening-up endeavor. Congo attaches great importance to developing relations with China and expects that both sides can continue to support each other, strengthen exchanges, expand cooperation and realize common development.
