Vice President Zeng Qinghong Meets with Mozambican Foreign Minister Abreu

On the afternoon of August 16, 2006, Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong met with visiting Mozambican Foreign Minister Alcinda Abreu in the Great Hall of the People. Zeng said the China-Mozambique friendship goes back to ancient times and bilateral ties enjoy a firm basis. The new Mozambican government, since it was formed last year, has as always attached importance to developing relations with China and adhered to the one-China policy. The two countries have made new progress in cooperation in all fields including economy and trade, he said. The Chinese government treasures the traditional friendship and is willing to work with the Mozambican government to push the existing friendly relations and cooperation to one new level after another, he said. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the Summit and the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of China-Africa Cooperation Forum to be held in Beijing in autumn, and it is willing to cooperate with African countries, including Mozambique, to hold a successful meeting and push China-Africa relations forward, Zeng said. Abreu said the new government of Mozambique is very satisfied with the current friendly relationship with China. She thanked China for its support and assistance to Mozambique before and after its independence. The new government will adhere to the one-China position and is willing to strengthen the cooperation with China in fields such as trade and economy in a bid to consolidate the existing friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. She said her country highly appreciates China's African policy and praises China's initiative to hold Beijing summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, adding that President Armando Emilio Guebuza will attend the summit. She said Mozambique is ready to fully cooperate with China and make efforts for the success of the summit.
