Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui Meets with Deputy Speaker of Kenya's National Assembly Musila

2007/07/09

On July 6, 2007, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui met in the office building of the Foreign Ministry with David Musila, Deputy Speaker of Kenya's National Assembly & Chairman of Sino-Kenyan Friendship Group, who is visiting China at the invitation of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

Zhang said Kenya is a trustworthy friend and important cooperative partner of China, expressing satisfaction with the development of bilateral ties in recent years. Both sides have conducted fruitful cooperation on education, culture, public health, tourism and aviation with mutual support and close coordination in international affairs, he said. Zhang appreciated the Kenyan government and National Assembly for adhering to the one-China policy and supporting China's reunification. China is ready to make joint efforts with Kenya to push for the implementation of the consensus reached by leaders of both sides and of the achievements made at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, he said.

Musila said since its establishment in 2000, the Sino-Kenyan Friendship Group has been committed to developing bilateral friendly relations and its members have done a lot for China-Kenya friendship within and outside the National Assembly. Musila reaffirmed his government's firm adherence to the one-China policy, expressing thanks for China's development aid to Kenya, which helps build infrastructure construction and other projects in the country. The two countries share the same position on many international and regional issues including the reform of the UN Security Council, he said. China is a strong supporting partner of Kenya in international affairs, said Musila, expressing hope to further push for bilateral ties.

Both sides also exchanged views on issues related to Sudan's Darfur and Somali.
