Wen Jiabao Meets Respectively with Chadian President and French Finance Minister

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met respectively with Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno and French Minister for Economy, Finance and Employment Christine Lagarde on September 21, 2007 in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai. When meeting with Deby, Wen said remarkable progress has been made in bilateral cooperation in all areas since the two countries resumed diplomatic ties last year. Facts have proved that development of relations between China and Chad serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples, he said. Wen suggested that both sides should view and handle their relationship from a long-term perspective to maintain long-term stable and sound development of bilateral ties. Wen said that China values its ties with Chad and will encourage Chinese enterprises to further participate in Chad's economic construction and continue to provide assistance to Chad within its ability. He expressed the hope that both sides will make full use of the mechanism of economic and trade mixed committee, map out bilateral trade cooperation, improve trade mix and enhance cooperation effects. Deby hailed the remarkable development of bilateral relations since the two nations resumed diplomatic relations a year ago, adding that his current visit has achieved positive results, strongly pushing forward bilateral pragmatic cooperation in all fields. He also pledged that Chad hopes to work with China to deepen mutual understanding and expand cooperation areas so as to inject new vitality into the resumed friendly cooperative ties. He reiterated that Chad will continue to adhere to the one-China policy. Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai, Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo and other officials attended the meeting. During Premier Wen's meeting with Lagarde, both sides discussed such issues as China-France relations and bilateral cooperation on finance and economy. Chinese Finance Minister Xie Xuren and other officials attended the meeting.
