On December 19, 2008, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai with Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.

During the meeting, Wen said since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have shown mutual understanding and support for each other and forged firm mutual trust and friendship with pragmatic cooperation in all areas growing rapidly. Angola had become China's largest trade partner in Africa. "In the face of the current global financial crisis which has caused shockwaves in the world economy, we should strengthen our confidence and work together to tide over the crisis," he said.

Wen hoped the two nations would expand channels and optimize structure to achieve balanced and stable growth of bilateral trade. China encouraged its companies to join in Angola's infrastructure construction and energy resources exploitation, and also encouraged its financial institutions to cooperate with the African nation on financing through business, Wen said. "We will implement the follow-up actions agreed upon during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in 2006," Wen noted. China would not reduce assistance to Africa because of the international financial crisis and was ready to keep close cooperation with African nations in the reform of international financial system.

Dos Santos said during the current visit, he had comprehensive, in-depth discussions with the Chinese leaders on furthering bilateral ties and reached broad consensus with a couple of cooperation agreements signed. He hailed the increasing political trust between the two countries and fruitful cooperation in all areas, adding that there is broad prospect for the development of bilateral ties. He noted that Chinese companies made important contribution to his country's social and economic progress. The president hoped that the two nations would work together to offer support and convenience for the Chinese businesses to participate more in Angola's reconstruction and development. Dos Santos expected more achievement in the win-win cooperation between the two sides.
