On May 6, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the Foreign Ministry with Ambassador Ibrahim Ali Hassan and Ambassador Mahmoud Ahmed Abdel El Gawad, Egyptian senior coordinators for Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) affairs.

Hassan said Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi's recent successful visit to Egypt fully indicated that the two countries maintained profound friendship and close cooperation. Egypt is ready to enhance friendly relations with China through their joint efforts in preparing for the fourth ministerial meeting of the FOCAC. Hassan vowed to strengthen communication and contact with the Secretariat of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the FOCAC in making good preparations for the meeting.

Yang said this year marks the ending of the implementation period for the 8 measures announced by Chinese President Hu Jintao at the Beijing Summit of the FOCAC which are aimed at enhancing practical cooperation with Africa. Against this background, the meeting to be co-hosted by China and Egypt is of great significance. Yang expressed satisfaction with the current development of bilateral ties, saying that China is ready to continue working closely with Egypt on politics, economy and trade, enhance humanities exchanges and maintain bilateral coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.
