On July 9, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met with Senegalese State Minister of Foreign Affairs Cheikh Tidiane Gadio, who was on a private visit to China.

During the meeting, Gadio said since the resumption of China-Senegal diplomatic ties, the bilateral relations have embarked on a track of sound development . He believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Senegal cooperation is bound to achieve greater results.

Zhai made positive comments on the sound momentum of bilateral ties, saying that the Chinese Foreign Ministry is ready to join hands with the Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries during President Hu Jintao's visit to Senegal in February and push forward bilateral ties.

Both sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on other issues of common concern.
