Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun Meets with Joint Press Delegation of African Countries

On September 29, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met with the joint press delegation composed of 30 senior editors and journalists from the mainstream media of 20 African countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire and Chad. Zhai extended welcome to the delegation which paid the visit on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China and introduced China's great achievements over the past 6 decades, especially the past 30 years since reform and opening up. He emphasized that China has unswervingly followed the road of peaceful development, adopted a win-win strategy of opening up and adhered to friendly cooperation with all countries based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Zhai pointed out that to enhance friendly cooperative relations is a long-term and firm strategic choice made by both sides based on their common interests. China is ready to make joint efforts with African countries to ensure the forthcoming fourth ministerial conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) a success and continuously advance the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership. Zhai also upon request answered questions form the journalists on the issues including socialism with Chinese characteristics, one country, two systems, the Taiwan issue, China's aid to Africa, the reform of the United Nations and bilateral relations with Zimbabwe and Gabon. The journalists thanked for Zhai's meeting, pledging to make relentless efforts in introducing the situation in China to African countries. They also wished the celebration on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China a complete success.
