On April 2, 2012, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni met with visiting Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu in Kampala, capital of Uganda.

Hui said China and Uganda share a profound traditional friendship and that the bilateral relations of the two counties enjoy a healthy development. The two sides, he said, have maintained frequent high-level exchanges, increased political mutual trust, expanded cooperation in various fields and intensified coordination and cooperation in international affairs. The Chinese side appreciates President Museveni for his contribution to the Sino-Ugandan and Sino-African friendship, he said. In recent years, the two countries have seen economic and trade cooperation developing quickly and diversified, which fully embodies the principle of mutual benefit and common development. China is willing to work hand in hand with Uganda to deepen pragmatic cooperation in trade, agriculture, infrastructure and other fields, Hui said. He called on China and Uganda to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to jointly promote the bilateral friendly and cooperative relations to a new stage.

Museveni said the two countries enjoy traditional friendship. As an old friend of China, Uganda is very glad to see the great achievements China has made. Ugandans, he said, have also made progress in building their own country, but there is still urgent need to improve infrastructure including roads and railways, as well as agricultural and mineral processing. Uganda is willing to work with China to seek new ways of cooperation and further the healthy development of bilateral economic and trade relations, Museveni said.

Hui also introduced China’s adherence to scientific development and peaceful development and had cordial and friendly talks with Museveni on issues including bilateral friendly relations, the current international situation and development prospects in Africa.
