On August 13, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in Geneva with Klaus Schwab, chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Yang praised the productive cooperation between China and the forum over the past 30 years. He emphasized China attached great importance to the forum's status and role in global economic and social development, expressing hope that both sides would deepen their cooperation. The minister expressed his views on the current economic situation, both in China and the world at large, and China's measures to tackle the ongoing global financial crisis. The forum will hold the Third Summer Davos Forum with the theme of "Relaunching Growth" in China's northeastern city Dalian in September. Yang believed that the upcoming Summer Davos Forum would certainly be a great success by soliciting worldwide support for coping with the financial crisis and realizing economic recovery. It would also add color to the 30th anniversary of cooperation between China and the WEF. Schwab said he was glad to see that the WEF and China had established good cooperative relations. He added that he greatly appreciated China's important role in dealing with the financial crisis and expressed the wish that both sides would strengthen their cooperation to ensure the success of the Summer Davos.
