UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Meets with Yang Jiechi

On January 6, 2011, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in New York.

Yang said in the past year, the UN achieved new outcome in safeguarding world peace, promoting common development and pushing forward international cooperation. China has participated in the UN’s work in various areas in a more comprehensive, in-depth manner. Under the current complex, changing international situation, China is ready to continue supporting the work of the UN and its secretary-general and make joint efforts to promote world peace, security and development.

Ban spoke highly of the important positive role China has played in international affairs as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and thanked for China’s active participation in the UN affairs and its support of the work of the UN Secretariat. He looked forward to China playing an even greater role in world peace, security and development.

Both sides also exchanged views on issues including the situations of the Korean Peninsula, Sudan and Cote d'Ivoire and climate change.
