Introduction of G-77
Established in 1964, G-77 was formed and have been expanded gradually by the developing countries for the purpose of enhancing coordination and solidarity, safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests, and pushing forward the establishment of a new world economic order in the multilateral fields of economy, trade and development. As of 1998, G-77 has 132 members. China's Relations with G-77 Although not a member of G-77, China has all along supported its just positions and rational demands and maintained good relations of cooperation with it. However, China attended some of its meetings only in the name of special invitee or invitee for a quite long period of time. China's requirement for participating in its negotiation on the Global System of Trade Preference was not agreed. In the preparatory meeting for the UN Conference on Environment and Development held in March 1991, the two sides, for the first time, jointly put forward a position paper in the name of G-77 and China. The form of cooperation between G77 and China took shape and has been gradually expanded from the field of environment and development to the fields of environment, economy, society, UN finance and budget, etc. . The level of China's participation in its activities has also been deepened continuously. The 20th Session of G-77 Foreign Ministers Meeting was held in 1996 and issued a declaration in the name of G-77 and China for the first time. In September 1998, Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan took part in the 22nd Session of G-77 Foreign Ministers Meeting and delivered a speech. It was the first time for the Chinese Foreign Minister to attend such meeting. China contributed USD 20,000 each year to G-77 from 1994, and USD 40,000 from 2004. China has invited some distinguished guests of G-77 to visit China, including Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN and Chairman of G-77, Ambassador Farooq Subhan(1983), Advisor to President of Venezuela Manuel Peres Guerrero(1983), High Commissioner of Ghana to Britain Kenneth Dadzie(1983), Permanent Representative of Mexico to the UN and Chairman of G-77, Ambassador Porfirio Munoz Ledo(1984), Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN and Chairman of G-77, Ambassador Jamsheed Marker(1992), Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the UN and Chairman of G-77, Ambassador Farnando Berrocal Soto(1996).
