On February 25th, the Political Director Generals of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of China, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and Germany held a meeting in Washington, discussing the Iranian nuclear issue. Mr. HE Yafei, Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China attended the meeting.

Mr. HE Yafei stressed that China insists on a proper solution of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiations. The parties concerned should step up their diplomatic efforts, demonstrate creative thinking and seek a proper settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue in a comprehensive, long-lasting way. The UN Security Council's actions should be helpful for the above-mentioned goal.

During the meeting, Mr. HE Yafei held respective bilateral meetings with Mr. Nickolus Burns, Under Secretary of State of the US, Mr. Sergei Kislyak, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Mr. Mark Lyall Grant, Political Director of the UK and Mr. Volker Stanzel, Political Director of Germany, exchanging viewpoints on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual concern.
