The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) was concluded and opened for signature in 1996. The Treaty prohibits all nuclear weapon test explosions and all other nuclear explosions. It is conducive to preventing nuclear weapons proliferation and promoting the nuclear disarmament process. It is an important step towards complete prohibition and thorough destruction of nuclear weapons. 178 countries have signed and 144 ratified the Treaty. Among the 44 countries whose signatures and ratifications are indispensable for the Treaty's entry into force, 35 countries have ratified the Treaty. China supports an early entry into force of the CTBT and signed the treaty on 24 September 1996 among the first group of countries. The Chinese Government has submitted the Treaty to the National People's Congress and the National People's Congress will review and ratify the Treaty according to the due legal procedures.
