China always supports multilateral arms control and non-proliferation process, and stands for maintaining and enhancing multilateral verification mechanisms. China believes that verification concepts need to be updated and developed in light of the change of situations in the field of arms control and non-proliferation and the advancement of verification technology. However, the basic principles of verification, which have been universally accepted by the international community and tested by practices, should be preserved. The important role played by existing multilateral verification mechanisms, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) should be further strengthened. The international community should take concrete measures to prevent and rectify abuse or misuse of verification means. The United Nations can play an important role in verification, while keeping coordination and cooperation with existing multilateral verification regimes. The Chinese Governmental expert participated in the work of The UN Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) on Verification in an active and constructive manner, and made contribution to the final report of the GGE. China is ready to continue to work with the international community to promote further development in the multilateral arms control and non-proliferation verification.
