Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with His Bolivian Counterpart Choquehuanca

On December 20, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Bolivia David Choquehuanca in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. During the meeting, Yang said since China and Bolivia established diplomatic ties, their relations have developed smoothly and the two countries have actively implemented the important consensus reached by President Hu Jintao and President Evo Morales on strengthening and deepening bilateral ties. New progress has been made in their cooperation in political, economic and trade, cultural and educational fields and the two countries have kept sound cooperation in dealing with international affairs, Yang said. China would work with Bolivia to consolidate bilateral mutually beneficial relations of friendly cooperation based on mutual respect, mutual benefit and common development, he said. Yang said China will continue to offer help within its available resources to Bolivia to support the country's economic and social development. Choquehuanca said his country views and attaches importance to ties with China from a strategic perspective and appreciates China's support and assistance in Bolivia's economic and social development. Bolivia hopes to strengthen strategic cooperation with China in science and technology, mining, telecommunications, poverty alleviation, education and human resource training so as to push for all-round development of bilateral ties, Choquehuanca said. Bolivia will firmly keep on pursuing the one-China policy, he added. Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. After the talks, the two ministers signed a series of documents including an agreement on China-Bolivia economic and technological cooperation.
