On August 21, 2007, Brazilian Vice President José Alencar met with visiting Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang, who is in the country for the third ministerial meeting of the East Asia-Latin America Cooperation Forum (FOCALAE). Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Chen Duqing and Brazilian Ambassador to China Luiz Augusto de Castro Neves were present at the meeting.

Li said recent years have witnessed smooth development of China-Brazil strategic partnership with fruitful cooperation in all areas, with which China is delighted. China is ready to work with Brazil to continue strengthening multi-level dialogue and communication, deepening all areas of exchanges and cooperation and making unremitting efforts for in-depth development of bilateral ties, said Li.

Alencar hailed China as a great country and the Chinese as great people, adding that Brazilian people including President Lula and himself have deep admiration for China. The two countries, with similar national conditions, have learnt from each other in building the country and maintained close coordination and cooperation on major international issues. The Brazilian government will, as always, attach importance to developing strategic partnership with China and strive to deepen friendly cooperation on politics, economy, military affairs and culture, he added.

Both sides also exchanged views on such issues as trade and bio-energy cooperation, and the East Asia-Latin America Cooperation Forum (FOCALAE).
