On October 2 2004, President Jagdeo and Prime Minister Hinds met with the visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing respectively.

The two sides were satisfied with the development of bilateral relations and exchanged views on further enhancing bilateral relations, UN reform and South-South cooperation. Jagdeo expressed that Guyana thanked China for its unselfish aid and attaches importance to the relationship with China. Guyana will firmly uphold the one China policy. Li appreciated this.

On the same day, Li held talks with Foreign Minister Insanally of Guyana and appeared at the signing ceremony of the Agreement of Economic and Technological Cooperation between the Government of China and the Government of Guyana. The two foreign ministers also met with the press together during which questions as bilateral relations were answered.
