Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council Meets in the Great of the People in Beijing with Guyana's Prime Minister Samuel Hinds Who Is Paying a Working Visit to China

On July 21, 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met in the Great of the People with Guyana's Prime Minister Samuel Hinds who is paying a working visit to China.

Wen pointed out that Guyana is the first country in the English-speaking Caribbean region to establish diplomatic ties with China. China appreciates Guyana's firm adherence to the one-China policy and its active efforts in boosting friendly cooperation between the nations in the Caribbean region and China. At present, China-Guyana relations are moving forward steadily, with the cooperation in every field constantly expanded. The Chinese side feels satisfied with the status quo of China-Guyana relations.

Wen said that a closer friendly cooperative relationship between China and Guyana conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and benefits the development of South-South cooperation. China hopes to further explore the diplomatic, economic and trade consultation mechanisms between the two countries and strengthen mutual support and coordination in international affairs. He also hoped the two countries will study and formulate plans for bilateral economic and trade cooperation. China will encourage more Chinese companies to invest in Guyana and continue to offer assistance for Guyana's economic and social development to its best capabilities.

Hinds said that Guyana and China enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges. Bilateral relations develop smoothly. The multilateral cooperation goes well. Guyana appreciates China's long-term assistance to Guyana in the infrastructure construction and the health sector. He said Guyana hopes to improve the cooperation with China in the fields of trade, hydropower exploitation, and raw materials processing to further bilateral ties. Hinds also reiterated his government's firm adherence to the one-China policy.
