On November 23, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with his visiting Mexican counterpart Patricia Espinosa Cantellano in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of opinions on comprehensively strengthening the strategic partnership.

Yang noted that China attached great importance to developing relations with Mexico. He also said that mutual trust had been strengthened and bilateral cooperation in various fields had made significant achievements since the two countries established diplomatic ties 35 years ago. Particular progress had been made since 2003, when they set up a strategic partnership. "China-Mexico relations have entered a new stage" of comprehensive and rapid development, Yang said. Yang said that China would make a joint effort with Mexico to maintain bilateral high-level exchanges, improve coordination and implement a joint action plan. China would also promote the steady and sound development of bilateral cooperation in economic, trade and other areas; enhance communication and collaboration at multilateral occasions, and make joint contributions to safeguarding the interests of developing countries.

Espinosa said Mexico would make a priority of strengthening friendly and cooperative ties and added that Mexico would remain committed to deepening the bilateral strategic partnership and pushing bilateral cooperation in all fields. Mexico firmly adhered to the one-China policy, Espinosa reiterated. Yang expressed his appreciation of Mexico's adherence to the policy.

The two also exchanged opinions on international and regional issues of common concern.
