Jia Qinglin and Zeng Qinghong Meet with Dominican Prime Minister Respectively

2005/09/21

On September 21, 2005, Chairman Jia Qinglin of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong met with Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit respectively in the Great Hall of the People.

Jia said that last March, HE Prime Minister came to China to sign in person the Communiqué on the Establishment of China-Dominica Diplomatic Ties, which has normalized the bilateral relations. Since the establishment of the diplomatic ties, both sides have actively conducted friendly cooperation in various areas, increased personnel exchanges and deepened mutual political trust. Both sides are developing countries and to strengthen friendly cooperation conforms to the fundamental interest of both peoples. China would like to develop all-round cooperation with Dominica in the principle of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits.

Zeng noted that although both sides established their diplomatic ties not long ago, the bilateral friendly cooperative relations have witnessed sound and steady development. China believes that so long as both sides strengthen exchanges and continuously expand cooperation in the areas of politics, economy and trade, and culture and education, the bilateral relations will surely achieve sustainable, steady and sound development and the people of both sides will also get more tangible benefits.

Jia and Zeng appreciated the Dominican government for adhering to the one-China policy.

Skerrit said that the bilateral relations have developed rapidly and the bilateral cooperation has been expanded into many areas. China's sincere assistance for such a small island country as Dominica makes the Dominican people feel that China is a true friend. Dominica resolutely pursues the one-China policy and commits itself to developing long-term friendly relations with China.
