On October 2, 2004, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Simonz and Minister of Agriculture Griffith, appeared at the opening ceremony of the Gipside Market which is aided and constructed by China and he also greeted the Chinese construction team members.

During the talks, Simonz and Griffith thanked China for its generous aids, stated that the Barbados Government recognizes China's full market economy status and stands ready to start economic and trade cooperation with the Chinese side in an all round way.

Li also visited the Barbados Stadium which is aided and constructed by China.
