On May 15, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met respectively with Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

When meeting with Mukherjee, Yang said during Indian Prime Minister Singh's visit to China early this year, both sides reached broad consensus on deepening China-India strategic cooperative partnership in the new century. China is satisfied with the all-round development of the current bilateral ties and thanks for India's efforts to ensure the successful Olympic torch relay in New Delhi. As newly emerging developing powers and important Asian countries, China and India should proceed from the strategic height to strengthen political trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and enhance communication and coordination in international and regional affairs so as to push bilateral strategic cooperative partnership for continuous new progress.

Mukherjee said Indian and Chinese leaders have set a direction for the development of bilateral ties. He urged both sides to implement the consensus reached by their leaders and develop exchanges and cooperation on economy, military affairs, culture and tourism in an all-round manner to achieve common development.

During the meeting with Amorim, Yang said bilateral ties have maintained a sound development momentum in recent years with major progress made in cooperation of all areas. China is the largest developing nation in the eastern hemisphere and Brazil is the largest developing one in the western hemisphere. To deepen bilateral ties conforms to the common interests of the two countries and all the other developing nations. Yang called for the two sides to strengthen dialogue, build mutual trust, expand consensus and deepen cooperation so as to push forward strategic partnership.

Amorim said Brazil attaches great importance to ties with China and is ready to give full play to the guiding role of the two countries' high-level committee and its subcommittees to expand comprehensive cooperation. He added that his country would like to expand trade with China, attract Chinese investment in Brazil, strengthen bilateral scientific and technological cooperation and enhance coordination in multilateral areas.

Mukherjee and Amorim said their governments adhere to the one-China policy and support China to host a successful Olympics. The two countries again expressed condolences over the massive earthquake in Sichuan. Yang expressed gratitude for this and extended sympathy over the terrorism attack in India.
