Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan Meets with Delegation of Czech Dignitaries

2007/09/25

On September 25, 2007, Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan met in the foreign ministry building with the delegation of Czech dignitaries headed by a Czech European parliamentarian.

Kong said that China-Czech relations have maintained a sound momentum of development in recent years. Both sides have kept high-level exchanges and achieved fruitful results of cooperation in various fields. The bilateral trade volume has hit historical highs, exceeding US$2.4 billion by July this year which is up 79% over the same period of last year. The bilateral cooperation in other fields such as culture and education continues to expand. He stressed that it is the common aspiration of the governments and people of the two countries to further grow the bilateral relations and that the economic and social progress of both countries has created favorable opportunities. China is willing to make joint efforts with Czech to translate the common aspiration of the two peoples into tangible results of bilateral cooperation.

The delegation head noted that in recent years Czech leaders including Czech President have paid visits to China and both sides witnessed increasing cooperation in economy and trade and culture. Based on their respective advantages, Czech and China can conduct mutually-beneficial and win-win cooperation. Czech has traditional strength in such areas as machinery, automobile, power plant, environmental protection equipment manufacturing and food processing while China boasts advanced electronic and textile technologies. He expressed confidence that this visit would help both sides enhance mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation.

Kong, at request, also introduced the development of China-Europe relations and China's policies concerning environmental protection and energy.
