On October 29, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan met with Libor Sečka, Director General of the EU Section of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, exchanging views on China-EU and China-Czech ties and other issues.

Kong made positive comments on the sound momentum in the development of China-EU and China-Czech ties, stressing that the Chinese government attaches importance to developing relations with the European Union (EU) and the Czech Republic and values Czech's role in the EU. China hails Czech's positive attitude in developing China-EU ties, said Kong, expressing China's willingness to push bilateral ties to a new level based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and to contribute to steady and sound development of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. The 10th China-EU leaders' meeting and the negotiations on the China-EU Partnership Cooperation Agreement (PCA) are currently two big events in China-EU ties, said the assistant foreign minister, adding that China expects to work with the EU to ensure the success of the leaders' meeting.

Echoing Kong's comments on EU-China and Czech-China ties, Sečka said his country attaches importance to developing relations with China and is willing to push for China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership during its rotating EU presidency in the first half of 2009 and to contribute to PCA negotiations.
