Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with Czech Deputy Prime Minister Vondra

On October 25, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met at the Great Hall of the People with Czech Deputy Prime Minister Alexandra Vondra, who is heading a delegation to the 7th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

During the meeting, Yang said the two countries and their peoples share a profound traditional friendship. In recent years, both sides have maintained high-level contacts and conducted fruitful cooperation in all areas. China is ready to work with the Czech side to take the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties next year as an opportunity to push for sustained, healthy development of bilateral ties based on mutual respect and non-interference in each other's domestic affairs.

Vondra said the Czech government attaches great importance to ties with China, adheres to the one-China policy and acknowledges that Tibet is part of Chinese territory. In the first half of next year, Czech will hold the EU's rotating presidency. Vondra expressed hope to cooperate with China for in-depth development of EU-China, Czech-China relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
