II. Political Ties and Important Exchanges

From April 15 to 19, 2002, Deputy Director of the State Auditing Administration Wang Daocheng led a delegation to Estoniaand held talks with Director of Estonian Auditing Administration Parts.

From September 23 to 25, 2002, at the invitation of Estonian Archives Bureau, the Chinese archive delegation headed by Deputy Director of the State Archives Bureau visited Estonia. Estonian State Secretary Wenn, Director of Estonian National Archives Bureau Palkasik met with the delegation.

III. Bilateral Trade Relations and Economic and Technical Cooperation

From November 16 to 23, 2002, an economic and trade group from the Estonian Association for Economy and Trade paid an visit of inspection to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), China.

According to statistics from the General Administration of the Customs of China, the trade volume between Chinaand Estoniacame to US$269 million in 2002, down 34.4 percent over the previous year. Of the volume, Chinese import was US$19.31 million, up 25 percent from the previous, and export US$ 250 million, down 37 percent.

IV. Bilateral Exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, science and technology and education

From April 1 to 11, 2002, Minister of Culture of Estonia led a delegation for a visit to China. At the same time, the 31-member "Lee'' Dancing group from Estonia visited China and held an itinerant performance in Beijing, Qingdao, and Dalian.

From November 12 to 17, 2002, President of Estonian Tartu University Yak Avikso visited Chinaat the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Vice Foreign Minister Liu Guchang, and leaders from Ministry of Education met with the guests.

From December 15 to 30, 2002, China's Ministry of Culture held "China's Traditional Painting Exhibition in the National Library of Estonia according to the Cultural Exchange Agreement for 2001-2003 reached by the ministries of Chinaand Estonia.

From October 22 to 29, 2002, the 18-member "August 1'' military delegation of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) visited Estonia and participated into an international wrestling competition among military contestants.
