China and Macedonia

In 2010, friendly and cooperative relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Macedonia continued to grow and exchanges and cooperation in all fields achieved positive results. The two countries maintained political exchanges at all levels. In August, Liu Yunshan, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, paid an official visit to Macedonia and had separate meetings with Gjorge Ivanov, President of Macedonia, Nikola Gruevski, President of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization -- Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity and President of the Government of Macedonia, and Branko Crvenkovski, President of the Social Democratic Union. In April, President of the Assembly Trajko Veljanoski came to China to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo. NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo and Vice President Xi Jinping met with him in Beijing and Shanghai respectively. In September, representative of the Macedonian government and Minister of Labor and Social Policy Zhelal Bajlami came to China for the National Day of the Macedonian Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo. In March, the new Macedonian ambassador to China Oliver Shambevski presented his credentials to President Hu Jintao. Further progress was made in bilateral trade and economic ties. Exchanges between political parties and in agriculture, tourism, military and other fields increasingly expanded. In May, Zoran Konjanovski, member of the Central Executive Committee of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization Democratic Party for Macedonian Unity came to China for the first China-Europe High-Level Political Parties Forum. In June, General Ma Xiaotian, Chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army of China, visited Macedonia. In September, Viktor Mizo, CEO of the Agency for Foreign Investments and Export Promotion Macedonia, attended the 14th China International Fair for Investment and Trade and the Opening Session of the UNCTAD World Investment Forum 2010 held in China. Perica Ivanoski, Macedonian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Supply, visited China. In November, the two sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Tourism Administration of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Macedonia in Skopje.
