The comprehensive friendly and cooperative partnership between the People's Republic of China and Romania continued to develop in 2010, as pragmatic cooperation deepened across the board.
The two countries maintained high level exchanges. From 6 to 13 November, NPC Vice Chairman Isma'il Tiliwaldi led a delegation for a goodwill visit to Romania. He met with Chairman of the Senate Mircea Geoana, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Roberta Anastase, and Prime Minister Emil Boc. From 28 to 30 July, Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi was in China for Romania's National Pavilion Day at the Shanghai World Expo and met with Vice Mayor of Shanghai Tang Dengjie and China's Commissioner General for World Expo 2010 Hua Junduo.
Close contacts were conducted by various departments of the two countries and pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade, science, technology, culture, education and other fields was further strengthened. A number of Chinese officials visited Romania, including Shan Jixiang, Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Li Ruogu, President of the Export-Import Bank of China, General Ma Xiaotian, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the PLA, Lu Yongxiang, Vice Chairman of the NPC and President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhou Bohua, Minister of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, Niu Dun, Vice Minister of Agriculture, and Zhang Zuoji, Chairman of the Committee for Economic Affairs of the CPPCC. In February, Vice Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng visited Romania and attended the 20th session of the Sino-Romanian Joint Committee in Economy. A number of Romanian officials visited China, including Maria Parcalabescu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and the Business Environment, Korodi Attila, Chairperson of the Committee for Foreign Policy of the Chamber of Deputies, Liviu Dragnea, General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party, Daniela Andreescu, Secretary-General of the Government of Romania, and Gabriel Oprea, Defense Minister. In May, President of the Social Democratic Party Victor Ponta came to China for the first China-Europe High-Level Political Parties Forum. In October, Dragos Ciuparu, Head of Romanian National Authority for Scientific Research, visited China and co-chaired with Cao Jianlin, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, the 40th session of the Sino-Romanian Joint Committee of Cooperation in Science and Technology.
