On January 17, 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai with Prime Minister Marc Forne Molne of the Principality of Andorra who is on a visit to China. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern.
Wen said that over the past 10 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Andorra the bilateral relations have been developing steadily, bilateral contacts get increasingly frequent and exchanges and cooperation in such areas as trade and tourism keep expanding. Wen expressed admiration for Andorra's resolute adherence to the one-China principle on the Taiwan issue.
China always holds that all countries, no matter big or small, rich or poor, strong or weak, are equal members of the international community. China and Andorra enjoy extensive common consensus in promoting multi-polarization, giving play to the leading role of the UN and maintaining cultural diversity. We are willing to constantly consolidate and expand the friendly relations of cooperation with Andorra on the basis of the UN Charter and the five principles of peaceful coexistence, said Wen. He also expressed hope that both sides should strengthen mutual support on political issues, especially the communications, coordination and collaboration in international organizations including the UN, actively explore cooperation in the field of tourism, sign the agreement on tourist destination country as soon as possible, promote personnel exchanges between the two countries, accelerate bilateral cooperation in areas like trade and services, strengthen bilateral cultural exchanges, expand exchanges of civil societies and enhance mutual understanding.
Forne Molne noted that Andorra highly admires the achievements of China's economic construction and its active role in international affairs. The Andorra government attaches importance to developing relations with China and will continue to follow the one-China policy. To sign the tourist destination country agreement between the two countries is beneficial to bilateral personnel exchanges and cooperation in trade and services. Andorra stands ready to further strengthen cooperation with China in such areas as trade and tourism and in the international organizations.
