Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with Christian Wulff, Prime Minister of Germany's State of Lower Saxony

On the afternoon of October 8, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the Foreign Ministry with Christian Wulff, prime minister of Germany's state of Lower Saxony and vice chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

Yang made positive comments on China-Germany relations and appreciated the efforts of the state of Lower Saxony and Wulff himself in actively developing cooperation with China over the years. He expressed hope that both sides will make joint efforts to push bilateral friendly cooperative relations for continuous new progress. Wulff said Lower Saxony and CDU attach great importance to developing ties with China and are ready to further enhance pragmatic cooperation with China. Both sides also exchanged views on the U.S. credit crisis and other issues of common concern.

Wulff is visiting China from October 7 to 11 at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. The delegation is composed of more than 80 members including representatives from the political and economic circles as well as news media of the state of Lower Saxony. After his visit to Beijing, Wulff will also go to the province of Anhui, a sister province of Lower Saxony.
